3 Steps to find your calling in 2023

Have you ever thought to yourself, there has got to be more to life, than what I am currently experiencing?

If you answered yes, then this article was made for you!

I am going to walk through three steps that helped me get to where I am today:

  1. Have a desire to know
  2. Read
  3. Actions

Have a Desire to know

You may be saying, “David, that is a little vague and doesn’t really give me any substance. I am reading this because I have a desire”. Desire is not the same as wanting. Many people want to know their hidden talents and abilities but aren’t willing to put in the work to find them.

There have been many moments throughout my life, where I would look up at the sky throw my hands up in the air and say ” Is this really all you have planned for me?” Deep down inside I always knew that I was made for more.

Everything starts with a question

Now, growing and into adulthood, my life wasn’t bad. From being a baseball star in high school to graduating college and starting a family, things were great. Many people would say ” you are living the American dream, just keep doing what you are doing”. Each step in my life, I would agree, shrug off my thoughts of being a super success and keep on living the “American Dream” as others would call it.

Meanwhile, people are chartering private jets, visiting the most remote places in the world, and doing whatever they want, when they want, with who they want. My curiosity would spark again, and I would go down that same rabbit hole of questioning.

It wasn’t until a specific moment in my life, and I remember very vividly, that changed everything!

Enough is Enough

Everyone has that one moment, that defining moment where they look at their life and say, “enough is enough.” For years, I would research new ways of making money: drop shipping, affiliate marketing, social media rockstar, I even grew a Tik Tok account to 8,000 followers.

I would be super excited to do it for a couple days and then would give up. I’d make up excuses like it was too hard, don’t have the extra money, and don’t have time with everything going on right now. You know, all the excuses that come to mind when human beings are faced with any type of challenge they don’t know how to overcome.

Breaking Point

All these thoughts absolutely consumed me. My mind would race 24/7. From the
moment I woke up in the morning and the three extra hours I would stay up lying-in
bed. Wondering, what I could possibly do to fix my situation. The moment came
when I’d had enough. I was working out in my basement when admittedly, I should
have been working. My mind was filled with frustration, confusion, doubt, and
anger.

Then suddenly I stopped, put on my boxing gloves, and started hitting the
punching bag as hard as I could for probably a minute straight. I am pretty
sure I threw my shoulder out I was swinging so hard. Anxiety filled my entire
body, as if I was going to have an anxiety attack.

After viciously attacking my punching bag, I threw my gloves off and started to march up the stairs. When I reached the top of the stairs, a calm inner voice said “relax, everything is going to be ok and all you need to do is pray.” So, I walked up the stairs to my room, knelt down and prayed aloud for close to 30 minutes.

Sometimes You Have Got To Listen Your Subconscious

Right before I finished my prayer, I had a thought. It was as If my own
subconscious was talking to me and it said, “you need to learn”.
Didn’t give me any directions on what to learn, how to learn or who to learn
from. It just said to learn.

Finished up my prayer and at this point I had completely calmed down. Headed
downstairs to make myself some lunch. Typically, while eating lunch, I’ll put
on a show to watch. This time, I decided to throw it on Youtube.com and search
Millionaire Mindset. The first 10 videos were of people telling you how to
become a millionaire. I just blew right past them and didn’t even think twice.

Eventually, I stumbled upon an old guy with white hair in a suit being
interviewed. It looked like it was shot 20 years ago on a camcorder, but it was
only 5 years prior. So, thought to myself ” this guy is old, maybe he’s
got some words of wisdom”.

I turned it on and one of the very first things that struck me, was him
talking about how he was making $4000 a year back in the 60s and was $6000 in
debt. He was a terrible employee, only had 2 months of high school and had no
direction in his life.

For many reasons his message resonated with me, but the
main reason was because it felt like he was in a similar situation to me at a
similar point in our lives. His name was Bob Proctor and here is the link to
the video I watched: Bob Proctor Interview

True Change Was Born

From that day I truly had a desire to change, took the council from my subconscious and started to learn.

Napoleon Hill said ” “The starting point of all achievement is desire. Keep this constantly in mind. Weak desires bring weak results, just as a small fire makes a small amount of heat.”

Start your journey with a desire, keep it close to your heart, and don’t lose sight of the life that you want to create. Hold that image in your mind at all times to ensure the desire stays with you and it will help you achieve amazing things.

Read Your Way to Success

You always hear people talk about reading and how it’s the way to build success, wealth, and happiness in your life. If you are anything like me, you would hear those words and think ” read? I’d rather watch paint dry for 30 minutes a day.” Reading for me was not something that I enjoyed or had any desire to do. In most cases, watching a video was much easier if there was something to be learned.

You Can Learn To Love To Read

One of the reasons I didn’t like to read was because I could never finish a
book. I would start a book, get halfway, get bored, and never pick it up again.
The discipline it took to sit down and read 10 pages or 30 minutes a day wasn’t
something that was instilled in me.

Some books are huge, and people expect us
to read those things? Like come on we’ve got lives. It wasn’t until I had a
true desire to learn and to understand my true passion that reading became
enjoyable.

That very first month I read 11 books. Yes, you read that right, 11! I had never finished an entire book in my life, and I read 11 books in 30 days. 10 were normal reading books and the 11th was an audio book. Now some of the books were only 100 pages or so but, there were a few 300 pagers in there. The amount of accomplishment that came over me after reading so many, only drove my desire to learn that much more.

You Always Remember Your First Book

The very first book I read was, You Were Born Rich by Bob Proctor. It is a great personal development book that helps you understand that everyone is born with the abilities and talents to make them a success in this life. It is our job to discover those. If you are wanting to read and not sure where to start, You Were Born Rich is a great book. Bob Proctor has it on his website as a free download. Download it! https://www.proctorgallagherinstitute.com/you-were-born-rich-book

One of my favorite quotes comes from a man named Jim Rohn he said, “If you want to live a top shelf life then you need to stand on the books you have read. Never stop learning, never stop growing.”

For some reason that quote made sense to me. To create the life you have always wanted all you need to do is read, learn, gain the knowledge that you need to make something of yourself.

If you just simply install reading into your daily life you will be amazed at the knowledge you will gain and the confidence that comes from growth that you receive.

Act Now and Act Fast

stop, time, waste-3089945.jpg

Now reading and obtaining knowledge will help you with the know how, but there is no point in just gathering knowledge if you aren’t going to use it. That would be like buying a gym membership without ever actually going to the gym. If you have a desire to be healthy and want to get in shape, you buy the gym membership and start working out. You wont see the results right away but that simple act over a period of time will eventually produce the body you are wanting.

Don’t Be Afraid, Just Do

Same thing goes for learning. Once we learn something we have to act immediately, start trying to implement those things you learn from people who have achieved success in their life. Don’t give up because it doesn’t work the first, second, third or even the 50th time that you do it, keep going until it does work. If someone else can do it, write a book on how to do it, then you most definitely can do it. Check out this article on find the right mentor through books

You have to adopt the UNTIL method as Jim Rohn would say. Don’t stop working toward what you want UNTIL it happens. Don’t stop going to the gym UNTIL you’ve got the physique that you want. Learning and acting are like peanut butter and jelly, you cant have the one with out the other. Well, you can, but who wants that?

Creating this blog was an action. In doing this I discovered how much I truly do love to write. Grammar may not my strong suit, but I am here giving it a shot. My passion has always been to share my experiences with others so that, they wont have to go through some of the things I went through to get to this point.

Henry Fords famous quote ” whether you think you can or you cant, you’re are right” So, don’t leave it up to can or can not, leave it up to your actions. I promise you will get to where you want to be.

Conclusion

In conclusion, there are three things to focus on in 2023

  1. Have a desire to change or be better. Wanting to change is not a desire, you have to really feel it with everything in you.
  2. Read all you can any chance that you can. Find a topic or something you think you would like to do, commit to reading it and finish it as fast as you can.
  3. Act on the things that you learn. Put a plan into place and go for it.

Desire is the key to everything. Once you have a burning desire in your belly to be great, you will automatically begin to act. Don’t sit idly by while others reach their aspirations in life. Get out there, go after it, and make the changes you want to see. No one every got anywhere wishing and hoping.

“Hope is for people who expect results with little to no effort”

Don’t be like me and expect the world to come to you. It is your job to seek out your true purpose, it won’t magically appear Infront of you.
